Grass Today Hay Tomorrow

Well not quite but almost! Haymaking season is upon us at Venn Farm and that can only mean one thing, late nights, early starts and unbelievably hot dry dry weather… no overcrowded Bournemouth Beach for the Venn Farm team.

The cut is underway here and its going really well as planned. We’ve got a great breeze coming in from the West and a few more days of dry weather for tedding and baling on the forecast. We really do become a mini Met Office at this time of year.

Orders are already being taken for hay so drop us a line at mail@venn.farm or give us a ring on 07593 995 278.

Calm Before The Hay Storm!

This is always the most exciting part of the hay making season, the bit before it starts!

The small bale hay at Venn Farm is made from a combination of Timothy, Meadow and Rye grasses; as with everything is Britain it’s very weather dependent. Venn Farm is situated in Sampford Peverell, a sort of “meteorological Bain Marie” , we don’t get the same weather here as they do in Tiverton or Cullompton, despite being a few miles from both, it means we can make our hay at a different time than them, holding off until the very last moment, for that perfect hay baled at 15/17% moisture and stored at 12%
