This is always the most exciting part of the hay making season, the bit before it starts!
The small bale hay at Venn Farm is made from a combination of Timothy, Meadow and Rye grasses; as with everything is Britain it’s very weather dependent. Venn Farm is situated in Sampford Peverell, a sort of “meteorological Bain Marie” , we don’t get the same weather here as they do in Tiverton or Cullompton, despite being a few miles from both, it means we can make our hay at a different time than them, holding off until the very last moment, for that perfect hay baled at 15/17% moisture and stored at 12%
